Medan Mers - Suspect Patient's Health Condition Improving

Medan, N Sumatra, May 9 (Antara) - The condition of a patient in Medan, who is a suspected of having contracted Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV), is reportedly improving after receiving intensive care treatment at the Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, North Sumatra. "The patient`s high fever and nausea are currently decreasing," the hospital spokesperson Sairi br Saragih reported here on Friday. Mrs Shan, a patient suspected to be infected with MERS-CoV was admitted to the hospital on Monday (May 5) after ailing from high fever and respiratory difficulties following her return from Umra (minor Haj pilgrimage) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Shan is receiving round-the-clock intensive medical treatment and monitoring to prevent any further transmission of the infection. "The disease is very dangerous and lethal," Sairi stated, adding that camels in the Middle East region have transmitted the Corona virus variant resulting in the rapid spread of the disease. Besides Shan, the hospital also reported another MERS-CoV suspect patient on Wednesday, who was also presenting similar symptoms of high fever, nausea, and breathing difficulties after returning home from the Umra pilgrimage. The team of doctors at the hospital is now offering intensive medical treatment and taking blood and saliva samples from the patients for comprehensive laboratory analysis. Earlier, a patient suspected to be infected with MERS-CoV infection died at the Adam Malik hospital at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday (May 4), after having received three hours of intensive medical treatment from the panel of doctors.
