Medvedev to discuss establishing technological alliance with Brazilian vice president

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. Russia and Brazil will establish a technological alliance. The topic will be high on agenda at Wednesday’s session of bilateral Commission on Cooperation at Highest Level held by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Brazilian Vice President Michel Temer. "The sides will pay special attention at upcoming negotiations to discussing priority projects of Russian-Brazilian cooperation in such spheres as energy, including nuclear energy, using space for peaceful purposes, military and technical cooperation that will serve as basis for the technological alliance between the two countries," the press service of the Russian government said. "The session of the commission at the highest level will strengthen positive dynamics of strategic partnership between Russia and Brazil, give additional impetus to boosting all spheres of bilateral ties with emphasis on cooperation in high-tech, innovation and science-intensiv spheres," the press service added. Medvedev and Temer, together with heads of economic ministries and agencies, will discuss "ways of further strengthening Russian-Brazilian cooperation." The press service of the Russian government reminded that "Brazil consistently remains our key economic partner in Latin America." "Indicators of mutual trade in general demonstrate positive dynamics. Over the last 10 years, Russian-Brazilian trade turnover has grown by almost 10 times," the press service added. However, specialists think that "one of the main tasks is diversifying mutual supplies by increasing the share of products with high added value." The Russian government noted that "the most important element of bilateral trade and economic ties is investment cooperation." Russian companies show interest in the Brazilian market in such spheres as energy, aviation, railway construction, telecommunications, informational and biotechnologies, pharmaceuticals. "Boosting mutual investment, implementing large long-term joint projects, involving Russian regions and Brazilian states into cooperation, active business dialogue between economic operators in the framework of Business Councils should be the main driving force behind strengthening the whole complex of our trade and economic ties," the press service noted. The Russian government also "aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture - both by boosting mutual supplies of agricultural produce and creating joint enterprises." Brazil traditionally occupies one of the top spots in trade turnover with Russia in the agricultural sphere - around $3 billion. Apart from that, Russia hopes to join soon the implementation of the Brazilian state program "Science without Borders" that aims, among other things, to educate specialists and scientists in universities abroad. "In the context of holding large sports events in Russia and Brazil [Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, Universiades in Russia’s Kazan and Brazil’s Brasilia in 2019], cooperation in the sphere of sports is actively developing, along with exchange of experience in organizing and holding the events of such scale," the press service said.
