MERCY Malaysia Deploys Team To Gaza Strip

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- MERCY Malaysia is set to deploy its team to the Gaza strip as a response to the humanitarian crisis, following massive air strikes by the Israeli regime since earlier this week. The team would be providing medical supplies including essential medicines, surgical sutures, medical disposables and equipment to local hospitals and medical centres. "MERCY Malaysia will be working with its long term local partners, Al-Emaar Society, El-Wafa Rehabilitation Team and Palestinian Orphans Home Association to provide much needed medical assistance as well as to assess other needs of the affected population such as food and nutritional needs. "MERCY Malaysia's country coordinator Dr Khamis Elessi witnessed the intensity of the barrage and air-strikes which has been increasing since Monday and shows no sign of abating," it said in a statement Friday. Due to this worsening situation, MERCY Malaysia said it had also activated its 'Palestine Relief Fund' and would collaborate with Media Prima Bhd to raise fund for the affected population in the Gaza Strip. It also urged Malaysians to support its effort in providing assistance to those in need. "The population of Palestine, estimated to be 1,816,379, are currently being attacked by Israel since Monday July 7 2014. 'Operation Protective Edge' was launched by the Israeli Defense Forces towards Gaza Strip. "...more than 440 air, artillery and rocket attacks within 24 hours which has killed Palestinians (2/3 of them are women and children under 15 years) and more than 500 people have been injured," MERCY Malaysia said.
