Merit- Making Ceremony Held To Mark May Day in Thailand

BANGKOK. May 1 (TNA) - A merit-making ceremony was organised on Thursday morning in the capital of Thailand to mark the International Workers' Day. Permanent-Secretary for Labour Jirasak Sukonthachart, civil servants, executive officers and representatives for the Labour Congress of Thailand (LCT) made food offerings to 9 Buddhist monks at the Dusit Palace in Bangkok on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day on May 1, 2014. The ceremony was jointly organised by the Ministry of Labour, the Labour Congress of Thailand (LCT), and the National Congress of Private Industrial Employees (NCPE), before a march was made towards the Royal Ground or Sanam Luang where other May Day activities were held. On the occasion, President of May Day 2014 Organising Committee Thawee Deeying proposed the demands for workers ‘ welfare and benefits to the government which the permanent-secretary for labour vowed to push forward for further revision of the employment law.
