Merit makings for late Thai King to be organized at Buddhist temples worldwide

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - All Buddhist temples in Thailand and other areas worldwide will organize merit making events to pay tribute to late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away two years ago. Sipboworn Kaew-ngam, Chief of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand (SSC), in his capacity as Deputy Spokesman of the National Office of Buddhism (NOB), told journalists on Monday that the latest SSC meeting recently, chaired by the Supreme Patriarch, resolved to have the merit makings organized in all Buddhist temples not only nationwide, but also worldwide, marking the two-year passing of the late and beloved Thai monarch. Based on the SSC resolution, the SSC chief said, a mass alms offering ceremony will be organized simultaneously at all Buddhist temples nationwide and worldwide at 7am on October 13 (local times), prior to a mass prayers event at 6pm at the same venues on the same day. Besides, the SSC resolved that mass prayers events will be organized 12 times throughout 2019 at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, at 4pm on the every 28th date from January to December, to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun. The SSC chief stated that for other provinces nationwide and all other areas abroad, Buddhist temples have been approved to organize the mass prayers events for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun situationsgerecht. According to the SSC chief, the SSC also resolved that events in which Buddhist monks at all temples nationwide continue their prayers, after their morning and evening prayers, will be pursued throughout 2019 to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun on the daily basis as well. Buddhists, or people from all walks of life, are welcome to participate in all the events that will be organized in their respective areas. Late and revered Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok on October 13, 2016 at the age of 89. (TNA)
