Methanol Better Utilization of Qatar's Hydrocarbon Resources - QAFAC Chief

Doha, November 26 (QNA) - Qatar Fuel Additives Company Limited (QAFAC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nasser Jeham Al-Kuwari said that QAFAC will enhance utilization of Qatar's hydrocarbon resources through the production and exportation Methanol for its significant importance in daily life. This came on Wednesday in Alkuwari's speech before the First Middle East Methanol Forum which was organized by QAFAC. Methanol, this simple miracle molecule packed with hydrogen and no carbon-to-carbon bonds burns cleaner than most energy sources and provides a viable, readily available alternative to traditional fossil fuels, he said adding that methanol’s characteristics as a liquid fuel at room temperature and the diverse sources from which methanol can be manufactured, make it an attractive alternative fuel for cars, trucks and buses. It is also used as an input to the biodiesel production process, as well as a feedstock for the production of dimethyl ether, a clean burning liquid gas used primarily for cooking and heating applications, but also a suitable replacement for diesel fuel. In addition, methanol is a unique resource for use in on-grid and off-grid power turbines for electricity production, and an ideal hydrogen carrier for fuel cell technology applications. For this reason, QAFAC is extremely proud and honored to organize this forum for one of the world’s most vibrant industries the methanol industry, said Al-Kuwari adding " We have taken this initiative of gathering all of us together to discuss and map out how we can take methanol and its production forward into the so called "Methanol Economy" for the benefit of our generation and that of future generations to come. We at QAFAC deem it imperative to hold this forum, in order for all of us to find better ways of efficiently and effectively producing and harnessing the methanol industry across the globe." The methanol industry comprises large and small producers, as well as thousands of distributors, technology innovators, downstream manufacturers and service providers. Therefore, this forum serves as the platform, within which every stakeholder in the methanol industry, to provide an opportunity to discuss and interact on issues that affect us all. (QNA)
