MFA takes good care of detained five Thai students in Pakistan

BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Thai Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, has taken good care of five Thai students, after they were arrested with a pistol and bullets at Lahore International Airport before boarding a Thailand-bound plane there early this month, as Pakistani authorities have continued to detain them for interrogation. Deputy Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told journalists of the update on Tuesday, noting that the five Thai students have been arranged to stay at a Pakistani military camp or a government compound. The deputy foreign minister confirmed that officials of the Thai Embassy in Islamabad have tried their best to coordinate assistance for the students, cautioning that the issue should be reported with care to prevent mistrust. The deputy foreign minister conceded that the detained Thai students carried weapons and they must, therefore, be subject to Pakistan's legal system, insisting that the Thai government will not put any pressure on Pakistani authorities. The deputy foreign minister admitted that he has no idea when the five Thai students will be released. (TNA)
