MFA:No Thais are affected by militant attack in Pakistan

BANGKOK, January 21 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that no Thai nationals have been affected by a shooting spree at a university in Pakistan on Wednesday, in which at least 22 people were reportedly killed and more than 40 others were injured. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee told journalists that the Thai Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, has contacted local authorities who informed that no Thai people, including students, were affected by the fatal militant attack. The spokesman confirmed an inspection of the list of Thai nationals found that no Thais registering to study at the university or live in its vicinity. The tragic indicent reportedly took place at around 9:30am on January 20 (local time), when a group of militants stormed into Bacha Khan University in Charsadda District of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, resulting in the dozens of fatalities and injuries from the attack and a later gunfight between the militants and security forces.
