MFA:Thais in Africa are safe from Ebola

BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that all Thai nationals have been safe from the current epidemic of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Africa. The ministry's Department of Information reported on Wednesday that the Thai Embassy in Dakar, Senegal's capital, has informed that no Thai nationals have been infected with the EVD in the disease-hit countries in Africa, including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. Besides, most Thai people have left Senegal for France and Thailand since last month, while there are no Thai nationals in Guinea and Sierra Leone. In Liberia, according to the department's statement, one Thai official works for a UN peace-keeping unit and there are three Thai-Liberian children. The department acknowledged that the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also ordered staffs at the Thai embassies and consulates-general in Africa to implement suitable measures on people seeking visas there to help contain the disease. The Thai Ministry of Foreign has, as well, instructed Thai representatives at UN offices in Geneva to closely follow up EVD updates and preventive measures introduced by the World Health Organization (WHO). So far, the Geneva-based WHO has not issued any travel advisory about the EVD-stricken countries. (TNA)
