Miladinov: We have common concern with Sistani about a million displaced people in Iraq

Najaf / NINA / The Special Representative of the United Nations in Iraq, Nicolay Miladinov said that there was a common concern of the religious authority, Ali al-Sistani and the United Nations for the increasing numbers of displaced people in Iraq, calling to speed up the formation of a national unity government accepted by wide national parties. He said in a press conference, after the meeting with Sistani, which lasted more than two hours; he transferred to al-Sistani the Secretary General of the United Nations' welcome for his efforts and his stance against sectarianism and protecting civilians. Miladinov added that "we are honored to meet Sistani and I transferred to him a personal message from UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, who welcomed Sistani's efforts of stand against sectarianism and protecting civilians." He added that "It is very important today for the political and the community leaders to unite with each other to cope the crisis taking place in the country, we have discussed with Sistani a set of points and we agreed completely with each other on them, including the need for forming a new government according to the constitution and constitutional times and this government should be accept nationally , and we called on all leaders to have common vision for the fight against terrorism, sectarianism and division." noting that the political leaders have to stay away from the sectarian extremist rhetoric and recriminations, and help all the displaced people. " He said "There are more than one million people in Iraq have lost their homes as a result of the current conflict, and we are concern about the systematic targeting of minorities and religious communities and ethnic groups, which is considered as crimes against humanity, and we are concerned about the situation of women and children, especially families headed by women." About whether he had discussed with al-Sistani, the names of potential candidates for prime minister, "he said," we did not touch or discuss the names precisely because these discussions must be held in the Iraqi Parliament, and it is important today to put what is happening in Iraq within the international framework and to make sure that everyone is committed to the constitution and forming a government accepted by all communities. " When asked about the Kurds' demand to separate, he replied by saying "the future of Iraq is, however, with in hands of the Iraqi people and there are 60% of the people came out and participated in the elections and elected their representatives in the House of Representatives and their main job is to save the country from terrorism and sectarianism and other threats faced by the country." / End
