Mild quake jolts Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, May 27 (TNA) - A magnitude 1.7 earthquake jolted Chiang Mai province Sunday night, the 4th quake hitting the Upper Thai North since early this month, but there were no reports of casualties or any damage. According to Thailand's Mineral Resources Office, Region 1, in Lampang, which oversees 17 northern Thai provinces, the quake occurred at 9:42pm with its epicenter located in Chiang Mai's Mae Chaem district bordering Mae Hong Song province, but it inflicted no damage because its epicenter was in a remote forest area. The agency reported that the mild quake was caused by the movement of Mae Ping fault-line in the Thai north and three out of four mild quakes shaking the Upper Thai North so far this month happened in Chiang Mai.
