MINISTER S.OYUN MEETS STATE SECRETARY OF NEPAL

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Environment and Green Development and the president of the first United Nations Environment Assembly Ms S.Oyun Thursday met Dr Krishna Chandra Poudel, a delegate of the UN Group of Landlocked Developing Countries and the State Secretary of Nepal’s Ministry of Environment, within the Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya. They exchanged views on challenges and difficulties the landlocked developing nations are facing due to global climate changes. Mongolia attaches a great importance to these countries' matters, so it of importance to join the multilateral agreement on launching activities of the International Think-Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries (ITTLDC), Oyun said. Members of the UN Group actively participated in a high-level meeting of for landlocked developing countries on June 2-3 in Ulaanbaatar, she mentioned, and said the International Think-Tank started giving its benefits to these nations. She also emphasized that the landlocked developing countries should treat the matters of climate changes and environment from a general position, because they have been affected more by the climate changes. In response, Dr Poudel congratulated Ms Oyun on being elected the first UNEA president, and said the UN Group of Landlocked Developing Countries backed joining the multilateral agreement on commencing the ITTLDC and is focusing its attention to the climate issues. Dr Poudel highlighted a requirement to pay a special attention to a chance of tackling difficulties and challenges of landlocked developing and low-income nations within the UNEP and UNEA frames. Dr Poudel underlined an importance of sharing experiences and information with research centers of the landlocked developing countries and least developed countries, and said the UN Group will support the UNEA’s president.
