Minister:Authorities are able to cope with drought

BANGKOK, February 24 (TNA) - Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda has assured that the Thai government is able to cope with drought this year and ready to assist affected people. General Anupong made the remarks after the Thai Cabinet's weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House on February 23, noting governors of all provinces reported to the Cabinet that overall drought conditions in their respective areas were manageable and there would be enough water for local consumption. Regarding water for agriculture, General Anupong told journalists that he has ordered the provincial governors to work out solutions with relevant parties, suggesting if there is not enough water, authorities should protect orchards first. The interior minister stressed that overall drought conditions have not yet severe and should be relieved with pumps and water distributions in affected areas. (TNA)
