Ministries to brace for flu season

BANGKOK, Dec 13 (TNA) - Thailand’s Public Health Ministry has asked for cooperation from four other ministries and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to stay on alert and prepare for control of influenza virus in the country ahead of flu season next year. Public Health Minister Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said an information released by the United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) in November that the number of H1N1 influenza virus patients in some Asian countries such as Qatar, Bahrain, India, Laos and Thailand had increased. According to statistics released by Thailand’s Public Health Ministry, a total of about 67,000 cases of the H1N1 flu virus were found in Thailand from January 1 to November 30. A total of 27 patients died. Dr. Piyasakol said relevant authorities are asked to work with provincial public health offices and to immediately contact with hospitals in the area in providing medical treatment to patients. Under the measure, public health volunteers will monitor the disease and to give advice to local people. Antiviral drug Oseltamivir will be given to patients suffering from the virus severely. (TNA)
