Ministry of Culture hosts dagger exhibition

PATTANI, July 31 (TNA) - The Ministry of Culture in cooperation with local authorities in Southern province of Pattani, organized an exhibition of traditional dagger as part of an attempt to preserve Thai and ASEAN’s cultural heritage. Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture Dr Apinan Posayanond presided over the event yesterday among many honorable guests. The event's goal was to compile a database of Thai wisdom and knowledge on daggers in the three southernmost provinces, so that the young generation could learn and preserve this cultural heritage. The event also promoted cultural exchange of dagger production and dagger dances among local communities. The ancient dagger cleansing ritual, dagger dances, and dagger making and crafting were demonstrated at the event. The exhibition also attracted many foreign dagger collectors from several ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei. (TNA)
