Ministry of Economy and Commerce Intensifies Inspection Before Eid Al-Fitr

Doha, July 26 (QNA) -The Ministry of Economy and Commerce announced today that it has intensified inspection campaigns on much of the stuffs and commodities that enjoy demand from consumers due to the approach of the blessed Eid al-Fitr. The campaign included the central market for vegetables, fruits, sweets and nut supplies, with the aim of controlling prices, maintaining stability of the market, and detecting fraud and price manipulation. The Ministry's judicial control inspectors carried out an intensive campaign that targeted the central market of vegetables and fruits including auction yards of imported vegetables and fruits in the central market, as well as wholesale and retail shops to monitor commitment to price lists of vegetables and fruits issued by the ministry. The campaign resulted in the seizure of more than 20 violations varying between non-fixing of price tags and failure to describe the item in the right way, to mention the type of fruit or the country of origin, as well as d failure to advertise the item in Arabic language. Vendors and violators not allowed to enter the yard were also seized. The inspection campaign included about 200 shops of men supplies (shops selling men's clothing and accessories - tailoring shops for men, salons for men). The campaign, which was carried out by about 20 inspectors, resulted in the issuance of 27 violation ranging from failure to fix the price, to describe the item in the right way and non-compliance with permits issued by the ministry. About 14 inspectors took part in campaigns that covered 200 shops selling sweets and nuts. They issued violations for different offences. In accordance with laws and decisions governing the work of consumer protection departments, penalties on offenders start from fines of QAR 6,000 thousand and multiply in the event of recurrence.(QNA)
