Ministry of Labour Signs MoU with Qatar Foundation

Doha, November 08 (QNA) - The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) aimed at improving working conditions for migrant workers in Qatar. Under the agreement, the two parties will work together to encourage organisations and residents to be more respectful of migrant workers, while seeking to improve sponsorship laws in Qatar. QF has been actively involved with initiatives in recent months to improve the welfare of workers across its construction sites. A number of senior representatives attended the signing ceremony, including EH the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Dr. Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al-Khulaifi, President of QF Engineer Saad Bin Ibrahim Al-Muhannadi, Group Executive Director of QF Capital Projects and Facilities Management Engineer Jassim Telefat, and QF Health, Safety, Security & Environment Executive Director Sheikha Amal bint Thamir Al-Thani In the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and QF, Mr Khalid Al Ghanim, Director of Inspection, Department at the Ministry of Labour, signed the MoU with Engineer Jassim Telefat, on behalf of QF. HE Dr. Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al-Khulaifi said: "Qatar is facing a number of significant challenges related to migrant workers. Local organisations will be required to make a concerted effort to solve these issues, so we applaud Qatar Foundations dedication to improving the welfare of workers in Qatar." Engineer Saad Bin Ibrahim Al-Muhannadi also commented: "Qatar Foundation is delighted to be partnering with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, as this agreement represents a significant step towards improving the labour laws in Qatar." "Qatar Foundation hopes to become a role model for the public in the treatment of migrant workers, and to lead by example. And, in doing so, Qatar Foundation is helping develop the community, and working towards overcoming challenges to unlocking human potential." (QNA)
