Ministry of Municipality and Environment Continues Protection of Endangered Turtle Species

Doha, April 14 (QNA) - The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Environmental Protection Reserves and Wildlife Department, affirmed Tuesday that the project of protecting the endangered hawksbill turtle continues to the current season amid taking all precautions that guarantee the safety of the project's team. The project of sea turtle protection is being implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and funded by Qatar Petroleum and the Environmental Science Center at Qatar University in cooperation with a team from the Environmental Protection Reserves and Wildlife Department. The Ministry explained that the field work in the project is witnessing an acceleration in the nesting operations, as 12 nests were moved to the protected nests site in Fuwairit beach, and necessary measurements were taken for turtles, as cleaning them from snails and treating some of their wounds. The Ministry attaches great importance in its strategy to protect endangered species, including searching and protecting endangered wild and marine species, as it represents national wealth for the State and for future generations.
