Mobile Market To Be Cleansed Of Smuggled Products

Tehran, Sept 13, IRNA – A deputy at the Headquarters for Campaign against Goods and Currency Smuggling said some 80% of mobile sets in the market are smuggled, adding that efforts are underway to cleanse the market of smuggled products. Speaking to IRNA, Alireza Bayat referred to the use of some one million mobile sets in the country per month and said out of 10 to 12 million mobile sets which are sold annually less than 2 million are imported. He said the high cost of import of mobile sets encourages their illegal entry into the country. “Therefore a revision in the process and decision-making is essential in this regard.” However, he noted, if it is decided to fight smuggling of mobile sets the private sector and owners of brands and major representative offices should play a stronger role in this respect. “Fortunately, we have taken good steps in this regard and have reached the stage of reforming the regulations approved by the Majlis. In a recent motion we have forwarded to the government we have asked for the reform of export-import regulations.”/end
