Mobile registration services for Thai fishing boats end

BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) - The Thai government's Command Centre for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) ends its mobile registration services for local fishing boats on July 15. Vice Admiral Jumpol Lumpikanont, Chief of the Naval Civil Affairs Department, told TNA of the information, saying that the half-month services were concluded on Wednesday at the Phraiwal Sub-district Administration Organization in Tak Bai District of Narathiwat Province in the Thai Far South. Vice Admiral Jumpol said from now on, port-in, port-out (PIPO) centres in 22 provinces and the Royal Thai Navy will strictly check fishing boats to suppress illegal ones. According to the senior naval officer, 16 naval officers who are about to fully serve the Royal Thai Navy have expressed their interest in new jobs on fishing boats, as invited by the National Fisheries Association of Thailand, and they will be trained on the jobs which interest them, including the positions of skippers and steersmen, and the association will pay for the training and their salaries. Meanwhile, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan told reporters that serious efforts to tackle illegal fishing by the Thai government should prevent an international boycott against Thai fishing products.
