Moderate Earthquake Hits West Coast Of Northern Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Bernama) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck off west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia at 8.38 am Wednesday. The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement said the epicentre of the quake was at 94 km southwest of Banda Acheh, Indonesia and 596 km southwest of Langkawi island in Malaysia's northern state Kedah. The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it said. --BERNAMA
