Moderate quake hits Thai North

CHIANG MAI, October 11 (TNA) - A 4.1-magnitude earthquake hit Thailand’s northern Chiang Mai province on early Friday morning, but there were no immediate reports of any casualty or serious damage. According to the Office of Mineral Resources in nearby Lampang province, the moderate quake occurred at 1:19am with its epicenter located 3 kilometer underground in Chiang Mai's Phrao district. The agency said the tremor was caused by Mae Ta fault line, which lies across the province, which had remained inactive for decades. Surachai Maneeprakorn, Phrao District Chief, told reporters that there were reports of a few aftershocks and minor damage to houses caused by the quake. Earlier, a quake measuring 5.2 on Richter scale hit Myanmar, 433 kilometre northwestern of Thailand’s Mae Hong Son province. (TNA)
