Moderate Quake Jolts Ternate

Ternate, N Maluku, Sept 17 (Antara) - A moderate tectonic earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted Ternate in North Maluku at 1.23 pm local time on Wednesday. Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) spokesman Suwardi said here on Wednesday that the epicenter of the quake was located between 1.01 degrees norther latitude and 127.44 degrees eastern longitude, or some 28 km north of Ternate at a depth of 29 km. But he remarked that the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami, material damage, and casualty. Therefore he called on the people of Ternate and of the other areas to stay calm and not be easily provoked by unfounded rumor about tsunami.
