Mogherini says will not participate in Warsaw Conference

Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA – EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Monday that she cannot take part in Warsaw Conference as she will not be present in Europe during the days when the Conference is held. Speaking to reporters prior to her presence in the Foreign Affairs Council, Mogherini said she is going to attend the African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, while the so-called conference on “Peace and Security in the Middle East” is held in the Polish capital. Her presence in the African Union Summit was planned long ago, Mogherini said, adding that she will have a series of meetings at the Horn of Africa. White House approach to the US-sponsored conference in Poland and its invitations of different European and Middle East countries to the event indicate that the main aim behind the conference is to build up pressure on Iran and to rally support for Trump’s policies. The Conference, slated for February 13-14, has faced icy reactions from different world countries. Analysts say holding such a meeting in an Eastern European country is also aimed to exploit the rift among EU countries on foreign policy and further weaken the bloc.
