MONGOLIA BECOMES CHAIR OF IDEA FOR 2016

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia was elected the chair of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) for the year 2016 during the institute’s annual forum on November 24-25 in Gaborone, Botswana. The Mongolian delegation headed by Mr G.Amartuvshin, a deputy director of the Policy, Planning and Research Department of the Ministry of External Relations and Economic Cooperation, participated in the conference themed "Fostering Democracy and Development Through Sound Management of Natural Resources". The gathered decided that, according to the IDEA’s rule, Mongolia will serve the deputy chair of the organization until its presidency come into force in 2016, and discussed the IDEA’s annual report, a middle-term implementation report of the strategic actions, and selected members of the Council of Consultants and the Steering Committee. The International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization with a mission to support sustainable democracy worldwide. The objectives are to support stronger democratic institutions and processes, and more sustainable, effective and legitimate democracy. IDEA is the only global intergovernmental organization with the sole mandate of supporting democracy; IDEA’s vision is to be the primary global actor in sharing comparative knowledge and experience in support of democracy. Mongolia became a member of the institute in 2011, was selected member of the Steering Committee in 2013 during 22nd conference.
