Mongolia is consulting with its neighbours on railway transportation

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A consultation launched Monday in Ulaanbaatar to resolve some problems in rail transportation for freight and passengers among Mongolia, Russia and China. Within the three-day action, the parties intend to find solutions to the problems that are facing the Mongolia-China and Ulaanbaatar-East Siberia railway transportation, hoping to discuss both negative and positive sides. For instance, the parties are expected to consider a matter on reducing a checking time of the Ulaanbaatar-Irkutsk train at Naushki station between the borders. In addition, the Mongolian side wants to reach an agreement with Russia on creating a route between Naushki (Russia) and Sukhbaatar (Mongolia) from January of the next year, whereas with the Chinese side--on taking some measures for keeping a railway schedule between Zamyn-Uud (Mongolia) and Erlian (China). For the time being, sub-meetings are running among the countries. On the last day, the sides are supposed to present the trilateral agreement and to ink it. Very first train came to Ulaanbaatar on November 7 of 1949. In 1952, Mongolia established the trilateral intergovernmental agreement with Russia and China on creating the direct railway ties. As of today, the Ulaanbaatar Railway has 1,815 km rails divided into 80 station across the country. The Mongolian section of the line, connected to Russia and China, runs for 1,110 km. According to statistics, the freight size and number of passengers by railway has been increasing recently.
