MONGOLIA HAS ITS GANJUUR SUTRA REGISTERED

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Mongolian Foreign Minister L.Bold has received a certificate on the registration of the "Ganjuur" Sutra in the World Tangible Heritage list. The certificate was officially handed over to him by the Director-General of the UNESCO Irina Bokova on November 7. Thus this famous sutra has become the third masterpiece of Mongolia registered in the UNESCO's the Memory of the World. This sutra--a crown of the Buddhism written creations--consists of 108 volumes. Its each of processed black paper pages were beautifully decorated with nine precious stones and metals--gold, silver, coral, pearl, turquoise, lapis, lazulite, nacre and steel in 1819. Our country has enriched the UNESCO Intangible Heritage list with the Naadam national festival, khoomii /throat singing/, long song, Eagle festival, Morin khuur /stringed national musical instrument/, the World Heritage in Danger--with the Mongolian epic, Mongolian flute playing technique, Bielgee folk dance, and "Tsuur" musical instrument.
