Mongolia is interested in joint ventures with Russia and China in infrastructure projects - President

MOSCOW, May 7. /TASS/. Construction of the Russia-Mongolia-China railway could become the first major project in the framework of cooperation between Russia, Mongolia and China in the economic sphere, Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj said in an interview with TASS Thursday. "Mongolia is at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. We have great neighbors - China and Russia. We want to develop the infrastructure, namely railway, transport capacities," he said. Elbegdorj said that China has recently announced the concept of "Silk Road economic belt." According to him, Mongolia is interested in these plans, taking into account the implementation of infrastructure projects involving Russia, Mongolia and China. "The development of the railway connection is an example of large trilateral projects. We do not have enough money, Russia also needs funds, and China has such capabilities. If we involve all three countries, we will probably be able to do it. That’s why we believe that the first large-scale project will probably be connected with railways, with infrastructure," Elbegdorj said. According to him, the cooperation will not be limited to the railroad project. However, Elbegdorj noted, that the careful study of the proposed projects is needed in order to understand which of them are really beneficial to all participants. "Together with Russia and China we are working on developing design and research center in Ulan Bator. It will focus on reviewing the projects with potential interest to our companies and businesses. It will be a good opportunity, we have a lot of pressing issues that should be addressed," Elbegdorj said. Read more
