MONGOLIAN CALLIGRAPHY REGISTERED IN UNESCO

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Secretary-General of Mongolian National Commission for the UNESCO G.Jargalsaikhan and accompanying him delegates are participating in the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The session is running in Baku, Azerbaijin on December 2-7 with the participation of 157 members of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. All 24 member-countries of the Governing Board completely agreed to register the Mongolian Calligraphy as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. Mr Jargalsaikhan expressed a sincere gratitude to all for this decision and said that our heritage Calligraphy is now being recognized by the whole world. He also underlined tremendous efforts of Mongolian scholars, calligraphers and others to bring this this heritage to these days and expressed a confidence that the government of Mongolia will preserve and develop our Calligraphy together with Mongolian nation. The Calligraphy has become the fifth heritage of Mongolia listed in the UNESCO.
