Mongolian delegation attends UN conference

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation led by the Chairman of the General Headquarters of Mongolian Armed Forces Lieutenant-General Ts.Byambajav participated in the United Nations Chiefs of Defence Conference held March 26-29 in New York, USA. The opening remarks were given by the Secretary-General of the UN Mr Ban Ki Moon. Introduction about the current situation of the UN peacekeeping operations, their achievements and obstacles were presented by Mr Hervé Ladsous, the Head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations; Mr Atul Khare, the Head of the Department of Field Support; a military advisor A.Mahsud. Our delegation held meetings with the UN and several countries' representatives. Present were also Colonel G.Saikhanbayar, the head of the Department for Strategy and Policy Planning of the Ministry of Defense, and Colonel I.Batbold, the military advisor at the permanent mission of Mongolia to the UN. This conference coincided with the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. The extended working group set up by the Secretary-General has concluded its analysis over the peacekeeping operations and issued policy recommendations. The Conference aimed at reaching a general consensus on the military roles in the development of the UN peacekeeping operations, overcoming the obstacles, and in implementing the UN peacekeeping mandates.
