More than 180,000 migrant workers await registration

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - More than 187,000 migrant workers are awaiting official registration to legally apply for work permits as the deadline for registration falls at midnight today. Many migrant workers from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos are seen standing in line at Bangkok’s Ministry of Labour. Some said they had waited at the One Stop Service (OSS) centre of the ministry for more than 30 hours and they still did not know when they could register. Employment Department director-general Anurak Tossarat said more than 187,000 migrant workers have not yet registered for the work permits and they should apply through the online system through the department’s website at www.doe.go.th. After the registration, workers will receive SMS, informing them the date of appointment for registration later on within June 30. (TNA)
