More activities introduced to celebrate Bangkok as "World Book Capital 2013"

BANGKOK, April 23 (TNA) - As part of various activities held to celebrate Bangkok as the "World Book Capital 2013", as designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra on Tuesday led executives and officials of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the general public to offer books as special and creative morning alms to 400 Buddhist monks at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground to promote the reading habit among Bangkokians. M.R. Sukhumbhand told journalists that the donated books, containing knowledge comprehensively, will be later presented to monastic schools and public libraries throughout the capital to encourage the reading habit and to expand reading areas for locals. Ceremonial postcards and up to 100,000 sets of special stamps featuring a story entitled “Little Leader Geo” or “Geo Chom Kan”, authored by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, were then introduced to be sold at all Thailand Post branches, priced at 20 baht per set, as a token for the occasion. Young artists from schools under the BMA and Poh Chang College, or Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, meanwhile, painted the front wall of the Crown Property Bureau in Bangkok to also help promote the reading habit among youths and the general public.
