More fuel supply prepared for Songkran travellers in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 23 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Energy, has sought cooperation from oil companies and gas stations to provide more fuel supply to sufficiently serve travellers during this year's Songkran, or traditional Thai New Year, Festival next month. Witoon Kulcharoenwirat, Director-General of the ministry's Department of Energy Business, told journalists on Friday that his department has asked for the cooperation from the local fuel suppliers in accordance with the government's policy, as a surge in fuel demand nationwide is foreseen during this year's Songkran holidays, set on April 11-17. Witoon stated that his department has also sought cooperation from gas stations nationwide to always have their toilets clean and hygienic for travellers, espeically during the upcoming Songkran Festival when more parking areas should also be arranged for motorists. Besides, the gas stations have been asked to ensure normal functions of their close circuit televisions (CCTVs) and bright light in the compound of their gas stations. According to the senior official, all gas stations have also been asked to strictly prohibit the sale of alcohol during upcoming long holidays. "All the measures are part of the Thai government's integrated plan on preventing and reducing accidents during the annual Songkran Festival", said the senior official. (TNA)
