More interpreters to assist migrant workers in Thailand

BANGKOK, August 14 (TNA) - Thailand’s Ministry of Labour will recruit more interpreters in every province nationwide to improve communications with migrant workers, as part of the government's efforts to solve human trafficking-related issues. Deputy Permanent Secretary for Labour Arak Phrommanee told journalists on Friday that his ministry will seek a state budget to hire more Myanmar, Lao and Cambodian interpreters to assist migrant workers in Thailand. Under the plan, Arak said, at least 1-2 interpreters will be deployed in each Thai province and even 3-4 interpreters will be stationed in Bangkok and other provinces where a number of migrant workers stay, including Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan. According to the senior official, his ministry will also produce brochures, short video clips and other PR materials in three languages, including Myanmar, Lao and Cambodian, to inform migrant workers of their rights and agencies they can contact for needed information and assistance.
