More Malaysians to celebrate Hari Raya in Thailand's Songkhla

SONGKHLA, July 3 (TNA) - Immigration Police in the southern province of Songkhla bordering Malaysia are mapping out security measures as they expect more Malaysians would be visiting the deep South to celebrate the Hari Raya festival, Eid al-Fitr, which starts later this week, marking the end of the fasting period of Ramadan. According to immigration police, the Hari Raya festival is expected to start between July 6th – 8th, Immigration Police said, adding that the Thai southern border is expected to become lively like the past when Malaysian tourists visited the area to celebrate the festival. It is hoped that between 10,000 – 15,000 Malaysian tourists would visit the deep South, the amount doubling from the normal period. In order to facilitate the arrival of the Malaysians, the Immigration Police office in Sadao border district has set more counters to screen the tourists’ documents. Currently, there are 13 counters at the office in Sadao. (TNA)
