More security officers deployed to protect visitors, important places

BANGKOK, August 21 (TNA) -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) announced today that it deployed more security officers and intensified precautions to protect tourists and major tourist destinations. NCPO spokesman Winthai Suvaree said although overall situations returned to normal, security measures were increased as the recent bombings had widespread impacts on the economy, tourism and image of the country. Col Winthai also said that police were making progress in their investigation into the bombings but the details were kept secret at present to ensure probe effectiveness. Police would also prosecute the people who disseminated online information that confused or frightened the society, the spokesman said. He also urged people who spotted any sign of suspicious incidens to contact authorities right away. (TNA)
