More trains on services during Thailand's New Year Festival

BANGKOK, December 19 (TNA) - The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced that it will deploy more carriages and trains to serve passengers, expected as high as 112,000 daily, during the upcoming New Year Festival. SRT PR Chief Nuan-anong Wongjan told reporters that normally SRT operates 242 trains daily to serve 95,806 passengers, but for the forthcoming New Year period, the state agency will add a few more carriages to each normal train and deploy additional trains to increase their handling capacity by 17,000 to 112,806 passengers a day. Nuan-anong said that the increased train services will be from December 29-31, 2014 and from January 3-5, 2015, with the additional carriages to be deployed for third-class and rapid trains on northern, northeastern and southern routes. According to the SRT PR chief, on December 26, 28 and 30, SRT will add one extra train daily each on the northern route from Bangkok to Sila At and the northeastern routes from Bangkok to Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani Provinces.
