Moscow hails strategic energy partnership with Turkey

MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. The relations with Turkey have reached the level of advanced partnership, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an annual performance report for 2014 published at the ministry's website on Wednesday. "In some areas, first of all in the energy sector, [the relations] have become of a strategic character," the document reads. The state visit of President Vladimir Putin to Turkey in December was the "turning point of a political dialogue," the ministry says. During the visit, the leaders of the two countries reached an agreement that the Russian and Turkish respective agencies and companies should study the possibilities of building a new gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey across the Black Sea floor, the document stresses. A project of establishing an energy hub on the Greek-Turkish border is being worked out which is expected to be used to "meet Europe’s growing demands for gas," it says. Read more
