Moscow hosts Persian-language professors, Iranologists confab

Tehran, Dec 17, IRNA – The conference of Moscow universities’ noted Persian-language professors and Iranologists was held in Moscow. At the commence of the conference, Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei discussed the aspects of Iranian studies, honoring great Russian Iranologists, the main fields of developing Persian-language in Russia and steps which should be taken in the field. He said that the embassy of Iran is ready to promote Iranian studies in Russia. Elsewhere Nina Mamedova, head of the Iran department at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Oriental Studies delivered a speech on Iran's progresses in significant scientific and cultural fields. She added that it is however “unfortunate that Russia does not have precise information about the Iranian society and its developments.” “Iranologists hold a vital responsibility and their studies and reports on Iran and its publication in Russia will indeed be effective in presenting the real Iran,” she noted. Moreover Vladimir Ivanov, head of the Persian-language section of the Institute of Asian and African Studies Moscow State University, said: “Great steps have been taken in the past recent years to promote Persian language in Russia. Nearly 20 Persian-language centers are active in the country and the activities of the Iranian embassy should be appreciated as well.” During the conference other professors and scholars also presented some of their reports. The conference studied the expansion of Iran-Russia scientific ties between universities, cultural and scientific centers. On the sidelines of the event, a book fair was held by Iran’s cultural attache office and the foundation of Iranian studies and an expo of Persian hand-woven carpets was mounted as well which was warmly welcomed by the participants./end
