Moscow strongly condemns militants’ attack on parliament building in Afghanistan - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. Moscow resolutely condemns Monday’s attack by militants on the Afghan parliament building, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. "On the morning of June 22, the Afghan parliament whose session was to consider the appointment to the post of Defence Minister was attacked by armed gunmen with the use of a suicide bomber," the ministry said. The Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the assault. "Law enforcement forces repelled the assault, all attackers were killed," the ministry noted. "None of the parliamentarians were injured." The Russian Foreign Ministry noted with regret that "the attack had claimed the lives of several civilians, killing five people, with more than 30 people sustaining injuries of varying severity." "We strongly condemn the brutal assault on the building of Afghanistan’s legislative body," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "What makes this criminal act especially cynical is the fact that it was committed during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan." "We are offering our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to the victims of the terrorist attack," the ministry noted. Read more
