Most of Missing Malaysian Passport Cases In Thailand Due To Negligence - Ambassador

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Most missing Malaysian passport cases in Thailand are due to the negligence of the document holders themselves, says Ambassador Jojie Samuel. Thus, Malaysians in Thailand are advised to keep their passports in a safe place, avoiding it from being dropped or stolen. "My advice (to Malaysians) is to always remain cautious and to protect their passports as if it was their own ‘life’," he told Bernama recently. Malaysians in Thailand who lose their passports should lodge a report at the nearest police station before heading to the consular office or consulate. It is also important for Malaysians to keep information on embassies or national consulates at hand, especially that of the duty officer who is on a 24-hour standby. On Sunday, Bernama reported that Thailand was one of the countries which recorded the highest number of missing Malaysian passports, with 90 per cent losing the document in the main shopping areas of Bangkok. Last year, a total of 124 Malaysian passports were reported missing in the country, while as of September this year, 87 reports were received by the Malaysian Embassy here. -- BERNAMA
