Most Thais satisfied with government services during New Year festival

BANGKOK, January 6 (TNA) - Most Thai people were satisfied with services provided by government agencies to comfort people travelling to their hometown during the New Year holidays, said Suan Dusit Poll on Sunday. According to the opinion poll conducted on 1,285 people in Bangkok and nearby provinces between January 3-5, 64.78 percent of the respondents said they were satisfied with the efforts by government officials in providing conveniences to people travelling home during the New Year holidays while 35.22% said there were insufficient services. The poll also found that most or 36.93 percent of the respondents thought most of the New Year road accidents were caused by drunk driving and driving in sleep, followed by carelessness driving at 27.83 percent, and failure to follow road safety rules at 21.34 percent. According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, there were 3,176 road accidents during the so called “Seven Dangerous Days of the New Year”, which killed a total of 365 people and injured 3,329 others. The number of road accidents and road death recorded during the same period were higher than in the previous year. (End)
