MP calls on West to lift sanctions on medicine, medical supplies

Tehran, April 13, IRNA – The sanctions on medicine and medical supplies contravene the humanitarian principles, so the Western governments must put an immediate end to sanctions on medical supplies, Iranian lawmaker Javad Heravi said on Sunday. Heravi, head of Iran-Germany parliamentary friendship group made the remarks in a meeting with his German counterpart, Rudolf Mutzenich. Referring to longstanding relations between Iran and Germany, Heravi said Iranian people have a positive view of Germany. He called for further parliamentary relations between the two countries, particularly in political and economic areas. He said that exchange of university students and professors between Iran and Germany could help strengthen cultural ties between the two countries. The visiting German lawmaker said for his part that parliaments of Iran and Germany can help their governments promote all-out ties. Mutzenich, deputy head of Social Democratic Party of Germanyˈs Parliament stressed the role of Iran-Germany parliamentary friendship group to help cement friendly ties between the two nations. The sanctions on Iranian banking system have paralyzed Iranian trade relations with outside world. The sanctions have made opening up Letters of Credit for import of medicine somewhat impossible though the western governments say that import of medicine and medical supplies are free on humanitarian ground. Washington has threatened the western banks to penalize them if they perform business with Iran and they refuse opening up LCs to avoid being fined by the US treasury department. The Iranian government reserves the right to take legal action with the International Court of Justice to seek compensation from the US administration for inflicting several hundered billion dollars damages on Iran under the false pretext of the Iranian nuclear program.
