MPR To Install Civic Education Among Students In Border Areas

Batam, Nov 27 (Antara) - The People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) plans to impart civic education to the students of elementary and junior high schools in border areas to tackle the threat of dwindling nationalism. "So far, only officials have received civic education based on the four pillars. We want this knowledge to be imparted to the students," Head of Data Processing and Information Systems of MPR Andrianto Majid stated here on Thursday. The 005 Elementary School has been chosen for implementing a pilot project related to the application of a learning system to boost patriotism in accordance with the four pillars of the nation, which are Pancasila, the Constitution of 1945, the Homeland, and Unity in Diversity. "In 2014, the assembly tried to spread awareness about the four pillars among the children from elementary schools, so that they will imbibe patriotism," he emphasized. He revealed that as a test, in 2014, the programs were also implemented in Aceh, West Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Yogyakarta, and in the Riau Islands. "With this model, the Indonesian youth in border regions will imbibe patriotism to fight for their homeland. Currently, patriotism has begun to fade," he affirmed. In December, he noted that the implementation of the program will be evaluated, and if it ran properly, it will be implemented in other schools throughout Indonesia. "Improving patriotism through the four pillars is the duty of the Assembly. We will continue the program," he remarked. Firdaus, the 005 Elementary School head, welcomed the government`s initiative to increase patriotism among the young generation. "We are glad. The program is very good to enhance patriotism in the students," he pointed out. He revealed that about 200 students are involved in various activities, such as quiz on four pillars, drawing competition, and honing the spirit of nationality.
