M'sia's Kedah State Police To Organise Roadshow On ISIS

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), April 2 (Bernama) -- Kedah state police will organise a roadshow against threats posed by militant groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to curb their spread in the state. Kedah police chief Zamri Yahya said the roadshow had received the support of the state government. "We have discussed with the state government to bring in credible speakers to instill awareness in the public here against IS. "Hopefully we can start the series of talks on ISIS statewide by early May," he told reporters after visiting Kota Setar Police Headquarters here Wednesday. According to him, Kedah police had found no evidence of extremism or militant leanings at the madrasah and religious schools they monitored. "We will continue to monitor these schools and also the mosques," he added. Police had revealed earlier that some Kedah youths had fallen under the influence of ISIS and were even planning to join the militant group in Syria. Meanwhile, Zamri said the crime rate in Kedah went down by 16 per cent in between January and March this year, compared to the corresponding period last year. Motorcycle thefts and house break-ins are the most common crimes in Kedah, he said. -- BERNAMA
