M'sia's Lower House Of Parliament Observes A Minute Of Silence For Death Of Rompin MP

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- The Dewan Rakyat (Lower House of Parliament) Monday observed a minute of silence for the late Rompin Member of Parliament Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis and five others who were killed in a helicopter crash on Saturday. Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Ismail Mohamed Said said the death of Jamaluddin, who was also Malaysia's former ambassador to the United States, was a big loss to the nation. Jamaluddin, 63, who was PR1MA Malaysia Corporation chairman, was killed when in a helicopter crashed near Semenyih, Kajang at 4.45 pm while returning home after attending the wedding reception of Prime Minister Najib Razak's daughter in Pekan, Pahang (Peninsular Malaysia's east coast state). The other victims of the crash were Azlin Alias, the Prime Minister's chief private secretary, pilot Capt Clifford William Fournier; operations assistant Aidana Baizieva; Jamaluddin’s bodyguard Razakan Seran and businessman Tan Huat Seang. "On behalf of the Yang Dipertua (Head) Dewan Rakyat and Parliament, we wish to offer our condolences to the wife of the late Jamaluddin Jarjis, Dr Kalsom Ismail and his family members," said Ismail adding that the late Jamaluddin had served as an elected Peoples' Representative for six terms. The helicopter crashed at Jalan Sungai Lalang, Kampung Pasir Baru, Semenyih about 40 km from Kuala Lumpur at 4.55 pm Saturday evening. Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has initiated an investigation into this crash. Prime Minister Najib Razak orders full, thorough, comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Rompin is a district located in Peninsular Malaysia's east coast state of Pahang. -- BERNAMA
