Multi-faith ceremony to be held for 2004 tsunami victims

KRABI, Dec 25 (TNA) - The southern province of Krabi province has prepared to commemorate 12 years of tsunami at Ao Nang beach and on Phi Phi island. Local municipality officials has worked together to set up a stage and decorated the boards and tents to hold multi-faith religious ceremonies and to lay wreaths at Ao Nang beach and on Phi Phi Island on Monday in remembrance of tsunami victims. The event is mainly aimed to make merit for those killed and lost. Over 500 people are likely to attend the event. The incident happened on 26 December 2004, causing many provinces along the Andaman Sea to be severely affected with a huge number of people killed. The Phi Phi Island alone had more than 700 people killed and almost 600 lost. Meanwhile, in Phang-nga's Takua Pa district, one of hard-hit locations in the country's southern region, residents and local administrative organizations will hold memorial services and a merit-making ceremony at the Ban Nam Khem tsunami memorial park in memory of all the victims. Twelve years has passed, however, more than 300 bodies of unidentified victims remain at the cemetery in Bang Muang sub-district as no relatives come to collect the bodies. (TNA)
