"Mun" expected to move out of Thailand by July 6

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) - The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) says that the tropical storm "Mun" is likely to move out of Thailand over the next couple of days and a nationwide water management plan during the rest of this year will be well-tailored thereafter. ONWR Secretary-General Somkiat Prajamwong made the remarks in Bangkok on July 4 after attending a meeting with relevant parties to follow up the updated weather and water situation in Thailand. Somkiat told journalists that the tropical storm Mun was moving from the Gulf of Tonkin towards Vietnam and was forecast to soon degrade to a depression and a low pressure trough, but there should still be heavy downpours and strong wind in affected Thai areas, including those in the country's northern, northeastern, eastern and central regions. According to the ONWR chief, the heavy downpours are particularly forecast in Chiang Rai, Nan and Petchabun Provinces in the Thai North, as the tropical storm Mun was moving out of the Thai Kingdom by July 6. The ONWR chief stated that there should be downpours generally in Thailand again from mid-July to the end of this month but less rain is anticipated thereafter. The ONWR chief revealed that his office will, thus, soon tailor a well water management plan to prevent or cope with the, probably, drought late this year as the total amount of water in all dams and reservoirs nationwide is now lower than last year's level.
