Murals of Three Tombs in Kangso

Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- Tomb murals of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668), listed as world cultural heritages by the UNESCO, are the longest pictorial heritage of Korea and have been recognized as the glory of the medieval Eastern fine arts. Among them are the pictures of four guardians at three tombs in Sammyo-ri, Kangso District, which have been highly appreciated as a masterpiece representing the Eastern pictures of four guardians in the history of medieval world fine arts. Though a thousand and several hundreds of years have passed, the murals in the big and medium tombs still keep their original colors. Seen in the murals are guardians of all directions--blue dragon in charge of the east, white tiger the west, phoenix the south and snake and tortoise the north-- together with other paintings like vine patterns, Spirits, mountains and animals. Three Tombs in Kangso have been preserved well as a national treasure, thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on the protection of national heritage. -0-
