Music album commemorating Vagif Mustafazade released

Baku, March 16 (AzerTAc). A music album dedicated to life and activity of prominent Azerbaijani musician Vagif Mustafazade has been released as part of the cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Heydar Aliyev Center. According to the press service of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the album features a book by Rauf Farhadov and an audio-disk on the prominent pianist who left indelible trace in Azerbaijani culture. The edition provides detailed information about the sources, history of development of jazz, the State jazz orchestra created by Tofig Guliyev in 1939 and prominent singers Vagif Mustafazade, also known as Vagif Mustafa Zadeh, was an Azerbaijani jazz pianist and composer, acclaimed for fusing jazz and traditional Azerbaijani folk music known as mugham. According to many world famous jazz musicians, Mustafazade is one of the pioneers and "the architect of jazz in Azerbaijan". Mustafazade is the founder of Azerbaijani jazz mugham movement that emerged in the late 60s and 70`s in Baku, as a result of the mixture of these two styles. He began searching for new ways to structure his improvisations by exploring modal music. More innovative approaches were taken by him and its influence stretched into later developments of this style.
